THE RUSH IS ON FOR PLACES IN THE AFRICA CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE

 Rolls Royce

The rush for places in the Africa Concours d’Elegance started with the launch of the regulations. This was combined with the Premiere of the TV programme which highlighted the Africa status of the annual vehicle beauty contest which is the classiest event on the Kenya motor sport calendar.

20 entries were received during the function including Maina Muthuma’s 1954 Morris Minor and the 1952 Chevrolet of Walter Serem. Newcomers Jorgen Englund and Ulf Eriksson will make waves in the motorcycle judging ring with two giant Harley Davidsons.

This year’s Concours will be the 39th in the annual series organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club and will be held at the Nairobi Racecourse on September 27th. The event is open to all makes and types of cars and motorcycles made in 2007, or earlier and the regulations list twelve classes for cars and eight for motorcycles.

The bulk of the competing cars and motorcycles are prepared and entered by Kenyan motoring enthusiasts, but the Concours has a strong international following. Over the years, there have been entries from Australia, Britain, Germany, Mauritius, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

The Concours has full Africa status for cars and is an African Motorcycle Union (AMU) recognised and sanctioned event. To ensure the highest possible standard of judging, entries are limited to 70 cars and 40 motorcycles on a first come first served basis.

The regulations are available from the event website www.concourskenya.com or from the Bob Dewar Publicity offices in Block G of Norfolk Towers, Kijabe Street.
